Jersey Heat Track Club athletes honored at USATF-NJ Awards Banquet

Three athletes of the Jersey Heat Track Club, a non-profit organization based in Irvington, were honored at the 2011 USATF-NJ Awards Banquet held at the Pines Manor in Edison last Saturday Jan. 21.
Ja’Nay Brown, a Florence Avenue Elementary School fourth- grader, Rameek Loring, an Irvington High School sophomore, and Paul Brown, an IHS senior,  received Athlete of the Year for their respective age groups.
Ja’Nay and Brown each received Distance Athlete of the Year - Ja’Nay for the Bantam Girls 9-10-years-old age division and Brown for the Young Men 17-18-years-old age division. Loring received the Intermediate Boys 15-16-years-old Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
All athletes had memorable 2010 to 2011 indoor and outdoor competition seasons, each achieving personal records in every event they contested. For Ja'Nay, that was a total of seven events, including six on the track - the 100- 200- and 400-meter dashes, and the 800-, 1,500- and 1,600-meter runs, and one field event - the long jump.  Some of her accomplishments during the past year were:
• Jan. 22, 2011 - Honored as 2010 USATF Sub-Bantam 8-and-under Distance Athlete of the Year.
• Jan. 29, 2011 - Fifth place in the 37th Annual Colgate Women's Games Finals for the Elementary A first through third grade 800-meter run.
• Jan. 29, 2011 - Sixth place in the 37th Annual Colgate Women’s Games Series for the Elementary A 800-meter run
• June 5 - AAU District Champion in the Sub-Bantam Girls 9-years-old long jump, 800-meters and 1,500-meters.
• June 12 - USATF State Champion at the USATF Association Championship in the Bantam Girls 800-meter run.
• June 12 - Second place in USATF Association Championship in the Bantam Girls 1,500-meter run.
• July 2 - Second place in the AAU Area 1 National Qualifier in the Bantam Girls’ 1,500-meter run.
• July 3 - Third place in the Area 1 National Qualifier in the Bantam Girls 800-meter run.
• July 10 - Second place in the Bantam Girls 800-meter run and third place in the Bantam Girls 1,500-meter run in the USATF Region 2 Track & Field Championships.
• July 23 - Third place in the Bantam Girls 1,500-meter run and fourth in the Bantam Girls 800-meter run at Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational.
• Aug. 3 - Eighth in the nation in Sub-Bantam 800-meter run  and 12th in the nation in the Sub-Bantam 1,500-meter run AAU Junior Olympic Games.
For Loring, who also runs for the cross-country and indoor track teams at IHS, that was a total of 12 events during the indoor and outdoor seasons, including 10 on the track - the 100, 200 and 400 dashes, and the 800, 1,500, 1,600 one mile, 3,000 and 3,200 runs, and two field events - the long jump and triple jump.  He also had two events during cross-country - the 5,000 and 6,000 runs.
Some of his accomplishments during the past indoor and outdoor seasons were:
• Feb. 27 - Third place in the 2011 Northeast Zone Championship in the Intermediate Boys Triple Jump.
• June 19 - Second place in the Intermediate Boys triple jump and third place in the Intermediate Boys 3,000 in the AAU District championship.
• July 3 - Third place in the Area 1 National Qualifier in the Intermediate Boys triple jump.
• July 10 - USATF Region 2 Track & Field Champion in the Intermediate Boys 3,000 run.
• July 10 - Second place in the Intermediate Boys triple jump in the USATF Region 2 Track & Field Championships.
• July 29 - 17th in the nation in the Intermediate Boys triple jump in the USATF Junior Olympic National Track & Field Championships.
Some of his accomplishments  year during cross-country were:
• Oct. 23 - Recipient of the Lester Wright Award for Exceptional Excellence for the second year in a row.
• Nov. 6 - USATF Cross Country State Champion in the Intermediate Boys 5K.
• Nov. 12 - AAU District Cross-Country Champion in the Intermediate Boys 5K.
• Nov. 20 -  Second place in the Intermediate Boys USATF Region 2 Cross-Country Championships.
• Dec. 3 - 35th in the nation out of 80 Intermediate Boys, 66th in the nation out of 136 all High School at the AAU Cross-Country Nationals.
• Dec. 10 - 93rd place in the nation out of 188 Intermediate Boys in the USATF Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships.
• Oct. 11 - No. 100 of Super Essex County Top 100 Varsity Boys Performers of All-Time at Branch Brook Park.
• Super Essex Conference All-Conference Award - Boys Cross-Country - Second Team - Liberty Division, 2011-2012.

• June 11 - State Champion at the USATF Association Championship in the Young Men 1,500 run and as the fourth leg of the Young Men 4x800 relay.
• June 12 - State Champion at the USATF Association Championship in the Young Men 3,000 run.
• June 12 - Third place in the Young Men 800 run in the USATF Association Championships.
• June 19 - Fourth leg of the second place Young Men 4x800 relay in the AAU District championship.
• July 1 - Second place in both the 3,000 and fourth leg of the 4x800 relay in the Area 1 National Qualifier.
• July 3 -  Third place in the Area 1 National Qualifier in the Young Men 800 run.
• July 9 - USATF Region 2 Track & Field Champion fourth leg of the Young Men 4x800 relay.
• July 9 - Second place in the Young Men 3,000m run in the USATF Region 2 Track & Field Championships.
• July 10 - Second place in the Young Men 1,500 run in the USATF Region 2 Track & Field Championships .
On the day of the banquet Ja'Nay also competed in the 800-meter run at the semifinals of the Colgate Women’s Games Series. Unfortunately she just missed making it into the finals to be contested at Madison Square Garden the following weekend by finishing seventh overall in the semifinals round held at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y.
