IHS girls' hoops gain No. 11 seed in ECT

The Irvington High School girls’ varsity basketball team received the No. 11 seed in the Essex County Tournament. The Lady Blue Knights will host either No. 22 seed Livingston or No. 23 seed West Side on or by Feb. 2. The game beween Livingston and West Side must be played by Saturday Jan. 28
Shabazz is the No. 1 seed. Montclair is seeded second and Mount St. Dominic is the third seed in the 26-team field.
The Blue Knights lost to Mount St. Dominic, 63-41, on Jan. 17 at IHS.
IHS then lost to Linden, 52-49, on Jan. 19. IHS led 25-24 at halftime, but Linden rallied with a 18-17 third-quarter run and broke a 42-42 tie by outscoring the Blue Knights, 10-7, in the fourth quarter.
Senior guard Maria Simmons had 13 points; junior guard JoiNay Carr had 12 points; senior center Najeelah Northern had 10 points and senior guard Natasha Walker and junior guard Kemaya Powell each had eight points. IHS fell to 7-5.
