destiny since they are dependent on the State, the County, and other Federal incentives just to keep their towns alive. Since the creation of Malls in the suburbs and the ease of access to them via the highways, most urban cities are dying. This is so because they do not usually have the economic infrastructure to self sustain. And the few that do have this are buys dealing with the crime issue, low performing schools, and low to moderate income of their citizens. So where is the money going to come from? Where are the revenues going to come from if very few businesses want to build there or upper income residents want to live there. Most Urban mayors are at the mercy of the State and now that a Republican has taken office I don't expect we'll be seeing too much mercy in the near future. At least the County is on our side but for how long. For government to work effectively, all of the administrative levels have to be seeing eye to eye. If any branch is not a board then there will be a bottle neck in the machination of getting things done. The Hon. Wayne Smith has done about as good a job as anyone can do with these limitations. He has made alliances with the County government, State government, and Federal government. This is the only way that an urban town can survive. Even New York city was crying broke recently. But in the future it will take some very creative means to keep any urban town alive.
